Despite suffering a narrow 1-0 defeat to Plateau United FC at the Jos Township Stadium on the final day of the 2025/2026 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season, Kano Pillars FC secured a dramatic last-gasp survival from relegation after finishing 15th on the league table with 48 points.

The four-time NPFL champions endured an anxious end to the campaign as results from other centres ultimately favoured the Sai Masu Gida, ensuring they retained their top-flight status for another season.

Reacting to the club’s survival, the General Manager of Kano Pillars FC, Ahmed Musa, expressed gratitude to Almighty Allah, the Kano State Government, supporters, and stakeholders for standing by the club throughout a difficult season.

Musa, in a statement issued after the conclusion of the campaign, admitted that the club experienced a difficult and unfamiliar start to the season but praised the resilience and fighting spirit shown by the players and technical crew in overcoming the challenges.

“I wish to express our profound gratitude to Almighty Allah for guiding us through the successful completion of the 2025/2026 Nigeria Premier Football League season,” he said.

“Despite our slow and unfamiliar start to the campaign, our darling club, Kano Pillars FC, showed resilience, character, and determination to retain its NPFL status for another season.”

The former Super Eagles captain specially appreciated the Kano State Government under the leadership of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for its continued support toward football development in the state.

He also acknowledged the contribution of the club’s front jersey sponsors, RFI Hausa, alongside the Kano State Football Association, supporters' groups, media partners, and other football stakeholders who stood firmly behind the club during the turbulent campaign.

Musa further commended the players and technical crew for their sacrifice and determination in ensuring that Kano Pillars avoided relegation.

“The journey was challenging, but your determination ensured that Kano Pillars FC remains where it truly belongs,” he added.

Looking ahead to the 2026/2027 NPFL season, the Kano Pillars General Manager assured supporters that the club would bounce back stronger and compete at a higher level.

“As we look ahead to the 2026/2027 season, I want to assure all our supporters that a different and stronger Kano Pillars will emerge.

“Under my leadership, we will continue to do everything humanly possible to restore and propel the status of this great club to the level it deserves among the elite clubs in Africa,” Musa stated.

The close shave with the drop zone provides a vital wake-up call for the four-time Nigerian champions as they review their turbulent campaign. By overcoming a slow start and handling immense pressure, the Sai Masu Gida proved their top-tier pedigree remains intact. The club's management will now look toward structural adjustments and rigorous preparation during the off-season to return to their traditional spot among the league title contenders.
