Nine-time Nigeria Premier Football League champions, Enyimba International FC, produced a commanding performance on the final day of the 2025/2026 NPFL season to avoid relegation after defeating El-Kanemi Warriors FC 3-0 at the Enyimba International Stadium, Aba.
Heading into the decisive Match Day 38 encounter under immense pressure, the Peoples' Elephant responded in style with a clinical display that guaranteed their stay in the top flight for another season.
The victory ensured Enyimba finished 11th on the league table with 49 points, alongside fellow survivors Warri Wolves FC and Kun Khalifat FC.
Despite enduring one of their most turbulent campaigns in recent years, the Aba giants showed character when it mattered most, putting behind weeks of uncertainty to secure safety before their home supporters.
Following the crucial triumph, Enyimba Chairman, Nwankwo Kanu, praised the players, supporters, and stakeholders for standing firmly behind the club throughout the challenging season.
Kanu expressed gratitude to the Abia State Government, led by Governor Alex Chioma Otti, for its unwavering support toward the club and sports development in the state.
“Firstly, we give our gratitude to God Almighty for leading us through the league season without accidents or tragic incidents on the road, and we pray for continued success and safety in our remaining President Federation Cup matches,” Kanu stated.
The former African Footballer of the Year noted that the government’s investment in infrastructure and youth-focused sporting initiatives had greatly impacted football development in Abia State.
Kanu also commended the club’s fans at home and abroad for their loyalty and encouragement during difficult moments, adding that their support played a major role in helping the team escape relegation.
He further appreciated Enyimba’s corporate and strategic partners for their continued commitment to the club, while assuring supporters that the team would return stronger next season.
Attention now shifts to the 2026 President Federation Cup, where Enyimba will face Gombe United FC in the Round of 32 on June 1, 2026, as the Peoples' Elephant aim to finish the campaign on a positive note.
The commanding victory over El-Kanemi Warriors provides a much-needed sigh of relief for the Aba giants after a grueling season near the drop zone. By preserving their top-flight status, the nine-time champions have set a foundation to fix the lapses of this turbulent year. The club will now look to channel this newfound momentum into their upcoming domestic cup run and subsequent rebuilding phases.
