Katsina United F.C. delivered a ruthless attacking display to overpower Ikorodu City FC 4-1 in their 2025/2026 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Match Day 37 encounter at the Mohammed Dikko Stadium, Katsina.
The defeat dealt a huge blow to Ikorodu City’s pursuit of a continental ticket, as the newly promoted side failed to cope with the intensity and sharpness of the hosts throughout the contest.
Katsina United wasted no time asserting dominance, taking the lead in the 6th minute through midfielder Jamilu Yusuf, whose composed finish stunned the visitors early in the game.
The Changi Boys continued to pile pressure on the Lagos-based side and doubled their advantage in the 25th minute after Azeez Falolu calmly converted from the penalty spot.
Ikorodu City struggled to recover from the early setbacks, and Katsina United further punished their defensive lapses when Yusuf grabbed his second goal of the evening in the 31st minute to hand the hosts a commanding 3-0 lead before halftime.
Despite attempts by the Oga Boys to find a way back into the game, the hosts remained firmly in control and sealed the emphatic victory in the 84th minute when Daniel Agara capitalised on poor defending to net the fourth goal.
Ikorodu City eventually pulled one back in the closing stages of the encounter with a 90th-minute consolation goal, but it proved too little too late as Katsina United comfortably secured all three points.
The result leaves Ikorodu City in fourth position on the NPFL table with 58 points, two behind third-placed Shooting Stars SC, intensifying the battle for the final continental slot heading into the last day of the season.
Attention now shifts to Matchday 38 where Ikorodu City face a daunting clash against Rangers International F.C. in Lagos.
For Rangers, victory remains crucial in their pursuit of the league title against Rivers United FC., while Ikorodu City must win and hope results elsewhere favour them to revive their continental ambitions.
Katsina United’s dominant performance has significantly altered the race for the top three, leaving the Oga Boys with a difficult path to African qualification. The final matchday will prove decisive as Ikorodu City looks to bounce back against a title-chasing Rangers side.
