2025/2026 NPFL Match Day 35: Kwara United FC remains unbeaten in four matches

Posted : 20 April 2026

Kwara United FC continued their resurgence in the 2025/2026 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), stretching their unbeaten run to four matches with a determined 2–1 victory over Barau FC at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Lagos, on Matchday 35.

The Harmony Boys showed early intent and were rewarded in the 15th minute when Gidado Toheeb capitalized on a rebound from Babatunde Bright’s well-delivered free kick to hand his side the lead. The early breakthrough set the tone for a confident first-half display.

Kwara United controlled proceedings through the midfield, with Akanni Akeem and Shola Abdulraheem dictating play and effectively stifling Barau FC’s attacking rhythm.

Their dominance nearly produced a second goal in the 32nd minute, but Junior Aimufua’s effort failed to hit the target after a neat build-up.

The pressure eventually told just before halftime when Aimufua was fouled inside the penalty area after a brilliant individual effort. Saheed Olaniyi stepped up and calmly converted from the spot in the 45th minute, giving Kwara United a deserved 2–0 advantage heading into the break.

Barau FC emerged stronger in the second half, increasing their tempo and pushing numbers forward in search of a response. Their persistence paid off in the 66th minute as Joseph Atule found the back of the net to halve the deficit and set up a tense finale.

Despite the pressure, Kwara United remained composed and disciplined at the back. Samsudeen Mohammed had a golden opportunity to restore the two-goal cushion in the 75th minute but failed to convert from close range.

Barau FC continued to press late on, but the Harmony Boys held firm to secure all three points, underlining their growing determination to avoid relegation.

The result lifts Kwara United to 15th on the league table, boosting their survival hopes as the league heads into a two-week break for the States FA Cup.

Speaking after the match, head coach Ashifat Suleiman praised his team’s resilience and focus, expressing confidence that they will build on their recent form in the remaining fixtures.

This vital victory marks a significant turning point for Kwara United as they move further away from the relegation zone. With four games without a loss, the Harmony Boys have regained the momentum necessary to secure their top-flight status. The team now looks ahead to the upcoming break to consolidate their tactical gains before the final push of the season.
