2025/2026 NPFL Match Day 33: Pillars boost survival hopes

Kano Pillars took a giant step toward securing their 2025/2026 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) status with a commanding 4-0 victory over Bendel Insurance at the Sani Abacha Stadium, Kofar-Mata, in a one-sided Match Day 33 encounter.

Driven by urgency and backed by a vibrant home crowd, Pillars delivered one of their most complete performances of the season, combining attacking efficiency with firm control of proceedings.

After a lively start, the breakthrough arrived in the 23rd minute when Mustafa Jibrin calmly finished to set the tone for the afternoon.

The momentum stayed firmly with the hosts, and just ten minutes later, Chidozie Okorie doubled the advantage, capitalizing on defensive lapses from the visitors.

Bendel Insurance, popularly known as the Benin Arsenals, struggled to find rhythm and were repeatedly pinned back by a determined Pillars side that controlled possession and dictated the tempo.

The second half followed a similar pattern, with the hosts maintaining pressure while limiting their opponents to few clear-cut chances.

As the game wore on, the dominance translated into more goals. Substitute Muhammad Aminu extended the lead in the 81st minute before Bernard Ovoke put the result beyond doubt with a late strike four minutes later.

Speaking after the match, Kano Pillars head coach Babangaru Muhammad praised his team’s response to recent setbacks, highlighting their improved execution and mentality.

According to him, internal reflection and tactical adjustments played a key role in the turnaround, with the convincing scoreline serving as a significant boost in their fight to avoid relegation.

The result lifts Kano Pillars to 42 points from 33 matches, keeping them in 14th position but strengthening their chances of survival as the season edges closer to its conclusion.

This emphatic victory underscores the team's resilience and determination to remain in the top flight. With only a few matches remaining, the performance serves as a vital blueprint for the points needed to secure their league status.
