Shooting Stars SC delivered a composed and clinical performance to secure a 3–1 win over fierce rivals Enugu Rangers in a Match Day 32 encounter of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) at the Lekan Salami Stadium, Ibadan.
After a cagey first half, the hosts came alive just after the restart, with Sodiq Ibrahim breaking the deadlock in the 49th minute to ignite the home crowd.
Rangers, however, showed resilience and found their way back into the contest in the 69th minute when captain Nwobodo Chidiebere calmly finished to restore parity.
The momentum swung back in favour of Shooting Stars in the closing stages, as Desmond Ojietefisan rose highest to nod home from a well-delivered cross in the 78th minute, re-establishing the hosts’ lead.
Sensing an opportunity to kill off the game, coach Nurudeen Aweroro made decisive substitutions late on, introducing Adams Mustapha and Adelowo Gbolagade.
The tactical change proved inspired, with Mustapha putting the result beyond doubt in the 88th minute, sealing a convincing derby victory.
The result highlights Shooting Stars’ growing dominance at home, extending their winning streak in Ibadan to seven matches.
They now sit fifth on the table with 50 points from 32 outings, level with Nasarawa United but trailing on goal difference.
For Rangers, the defeat underscores inconsistencies on the road, while Shooting Stars continue to strengthen their push for a top-four finish.
The victory further cements the Oluyole Warriors' reputation as a formidable force when playing in front of their home supporters. While Enugu Rangers showed flashes of quality, they were ultimately undone by the superior finishing and tactical adjustments of the Ibadan side. Both teams now prepare for the final stretch of the season with continental qualification spots still very much in play.
