Kwara United will take on Bayelsa United this Sunday at the Main Bowl of the Rashidi Yekini, George Innih Stadium in Ilorin, in a Match Day 18 encounter of the 2025/2026 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), as the first half of the season draws to a close.
The Harmony Boys enter the fixture determined to secure maximum points and improve their league standing, especially following a disappointing 3–1 defeat to Enyimba International in Aba last weekend—a match that proved challenging for head coach Ashifat Suleiman.
Historically, Kwara United hold a slight advantage over Bayelsa United. In their previous NPFL meetings, the Ilorin-based side drew 1–1 at the Samson Siasia Stadium last season before claiming victory in the return leg at home. The teams also faced off during the preseason Duye Diri Football Tournament, where Kwara United outperformed their rivals.
On the league table, Bayelsa United currently occupy 10th place with 23 points from 17 matches, while Kwara United sit 13th with 21 points from the same number of games. This makes Sunday’s fixture a vital six-pointer for both sides.
Ahead of the match, Coach Suleiman expressed confidence in his squad, emphasizing their readiness and stating that the team’s primary objective is to claim all three points on home soil.
Kwara United have also received a boost with the return to full training of Olarewaju AbdulRahman, Issa Gata, Aule Johnmark, and Obiora Kingsley. However, the team will be without Saheed Olaniyi and Ibrahim Yahaya, who are sidelined due to injuries.
Kickoff promises an intense contest as both teams vie for supremacy and aim for a strong finish to the first half of the NPFL season.
