2025/2026 NPFL Match Day 18: Kano Pillars End Katsina Exile With Gritty Win Over Plateau United

Posted : 22 December 2025

Kano Pillars FC brought their temporary relocation to Katsina to a positive close after securing a hard-earned 2–1 win against Plateau United in their Match Day 18 fixture of the 2025/2026 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) at the Mohammad Dikko Stadium.

The four-time league champions have been forced to play home matches outside Kano following the closure of the Sani Abacha Stadium. The sanction was imposed after crowd disturbances during their Match Day 8 clash against Shooting Stars SC, which included a pitch invasion and attacks on match officials and opposing players. As a result, the club was docked three points and three goals under NPFL Rule C1.1, with Katsina approved as their temporary home venue.

In what marked their final appearance in Katsina before a return to Kano, the Sai Masu Gida displayed determination against a spirited Plateau United side eager to spoil the occasion. The visitors struck first in the 13th minute when Wisdom Ndon found the net, briefly silencing the home supporters.

Kano Pillars responded with composure and persistence, and their pressure paid off just before the interval as Mustapha Jibrin drew the hosts level in the 45th minute to restore belief going into the break.

Momentum remained with Pillars after the restart, and their resurgence was capped when General Manager-cum-player Ahmed Musa delivered the decisive goal to put his side in front. The strike carried added significance, coming only days after Musa announced his retirement from international football.

Despite being reduced to ten men later in the contest, Kano Pillars defended with discipline and resolve to protect their advantage and claim all three points.

The victory not only marked the end of a challenging period away from home but also served as a morale-boosting result as the club prepares to return to Kano and resume matches at their traditional base.
