Ikorodu City FC will bring their fearless and borderless style to the Cathedral in Enugu on Sunday as they face seven-time Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) champions, Rangers International FC, in a Match Day 18 clash.
The Lagos-based Oga Boys, known for their grit and bold approach, have shown little regard for reputations in their debut season at the top flight. Despite being newcomers, Ikorodu City have held their own against established sides, securing impressive results against some of the NPFL’s traditional heavyweights.
A trip to Enugu may seem daunting on paper, but Ikorodu City will back themselves to earn a respectable result. However, finding the cutting edge has been challenging, particularly after recent goal-scoring struggles.
Under the guidance of Bright Ozadegbe, the Oga Boys have gone goal-shy since their 1–0 home victory over Abia Warriors. The departure of influential winger Shola Adelani to a European club has further weakened their attacking options, leaving a noticeable void in the frontline.
Ikorodu City failed to score in their last two league outings—a defeat to Wikki Tourists in Bauchi on Match Day 16, followed by a goalless draw against Katsina United on Match Day 17—raising concerns ahead of the tough Enugu test.
Rangers International, meanwhile, have experienced a season of mixed fortunes. The Flying Antelopes have been inconsistent, recording two wins, two draws, and one loss in their last five matches. They currently sit sixth on the NPFL table with 26 points, having tallied seven wins, seven draws, and five losses so far this campaign. Their preparations have also been disrupted, with head coach Fidelis Ilechukwu away on national duty as part of the Super Eagles technical crew for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco.
With Ikorodu City eager to prove themselves on the road and Rangers determined to assert home dominance despite recent setbacks, Sunday’s encounter promises to be a tightly contested battle at the Cathedral in Enugu.
