2025/2026 NPFL Match Day 18: Babatunde, Emmanuel Fire Kwara United Past Bayelsa United

Posted : 22 December 2025

Kwara United FC have recorded yet another clean sheet after a convincing 2–0 victory over Bayelsa United in the Match Day 18 fixture of the 2025/2026 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), played at the Rashidi Yekini Mainbowl of the George Innih Stadium, Ilorin.

The Harmony Boys began the encounter cautiously, allowing the visitors to dictate the tempo for the opening 20 minutes.

However, Kwara United gradually found their rhythm as the midfield trio of Akanni Akeem, Gidado Toheeb, and Victor Adeoye asserted control to neutralize Bayelsa United’s dominance.

Despite improved play, both sides went into the break goalless, with Bayelsa United effectively curtailing Kwara United’s attacking efforts in the first half.=

The second half saw a more purposeful Kwara United side.

Their resilience paid off in the 54th minute when Junior Aimufua broke through with a solo run and delivered a pinpoint cross that was calmly finished by Babatunde Bright, who was perfectly positioned to slot home the opener.

Buoyed by the breakthrough, Kwara United continued to press for more goals. Their persistence was rewarded in the 69th minute when Ini Emmanuel doubled the advantage, reacting quickest to a long throw from Seun Ogunribide and a well-timed assist from Babatunde Bright.

Bright’s outstanding performance earned him the Cyteck Man of the Match award, sponsored by Engr Ahmed Olaide, as well as the Ambassador Yahaya Seriki MOTM honour sponsored by Coach Biffo.

Speaking after the match, Head Coach Ashifat Suleiman admitted that his side’s slow start gave Bayelsa United the opportunity to dominate early proceedings. He, however, praised his players’ resilience and determination, which he said proved decisive when it mattered most.

Coach Suleiman added that although the team is still short of its target for the first stanza of the league, the narrow points gap between the league leaders and teams at the bottom gives them confidence going into the second round.

With the victory, Kwara United move up to 8th position on the NPFL table after 18 matches and will face Bendel Insurance of Benin next weekend.
