2025/2026 NPFL Match Day 13: Bendel Insurance Host Kano Pillars in Basement Battle

Two of Nigeria’s most storied football clubs find themselves in unfamiliar and unsettling territory as the 2025/2026 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season approaches Match Day 13. Bendel Insurance and Kano Pillars — clubs with rich histories and massive followings — now prepare for a clash defined more by survival than supremacy.

The meeting at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium is a true basement showdown.

Five-time league champions Kano Pillars sit at the foot of the table in 20th place, while their long-standing rivals, Bendel Insurance, occupy 19th spot.

Kano Pillars have managed only six points from 11 matches, recording two wins, three draws, and six losses, though they have one outstanding fixture.

Bendel Insurance, on the other hand, have garnered nine points from 12 matches, with a disappointing return of one win, six draws, and five defeats.

Both sides share another significant similarity: managerial overhauls.

Kano Pillars dismissed their entire technical crew, including Technical Adviser Ogenyi Evans and Chief Coach Ahmed Garba, citing the team’s “unsatisfactory performance.” Veteran tactician Mohammed Babaganaru has since taken charge in an interim role.

Bendel Insurance also reacted decisively, parting ways with Greg Ikhenoba and appointing two-time NPFL title-winning coach Kennedy Boboye.

Yet, despite the pedigree of both new managers, neither side has witnessed the expected turnaround, and the weight of expectation mounts ahead of this fixture.

Boboye will be desperate to secure a home win to ease growing tensions within the Insurance camp, while Babaganaru seeks a statement performance to justify the management’s confidence in his interim leadership.
