Kwara United will embark on a challenging run of back-to-back away fixtures in the 2025/2026 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), starting with a Match Day 12 clash against league leaders Nasarawa United in Lafia this weekend, before heading to Maiduguri to face El-Kanemi Warriors in Match Day 13.
The Harmony Boys are eager to build on their recent impressive form, having recorded two home wins and two away draws since Coach Ashifat Suleiman was confirmed as the club’s new Technical Adviser.
Suleiman, known for his creativity-driven and possession-based style, has reinvigorated the squad with confidence and tactical discipline — a transformation reflected in their current five-game unbeaten run.
Despite the demands of consecutive away games in the NPFL, the players have vowed to maintain momentum as they pursue their season goals, which include a strong league finish and a potential FA Cup defence.
However, the team will be without forward Issa Gata and midfielder Akanni Akeem, both sidelined with injuries. Akanni sustained a hamstring injury early in the match against Remo Stars, while Gata picked up a knock during training. The duo are expected to return before the upcoming home fixture against Shooting Stars later this month.
Kwara United currently sit 8th on the table with 16 points from 11 games, while Nasarawa United top the standings with 22 points from 11 matches.
Sunday’s clash in Lafia promises to be more than just a North Central Derby—it’s a renewal of an age-long rivalry between two competitive sides. Having edged the Solid Miners in previous meetings, the Harmony Boys will aim to repeat the feat, though the stakes are higher this time as both teams chase contrasting ambitions on the log.
Fans can expect intensity, passion, and a fierce contest as 90 minutes in Lafia decide who takes the bragging rights in this regional showdown.
