Inter Lagos returned to winning ways in impressive fashion with a composed 2-0 victory over Ranchers Bees in their second fixture of the 2025/2026 Nigeria National League (NNL) Super Four in Ikenne.
After suffering a slim 1-0 defeat to Doma United in their opening match, Inter Lagos entered the encounter under pressure to respond positively and delivered a disciplined performance to reignite their campaign.
The contest began cautiously, with both teams battling for control in midfield during a closely fought first half. Chances were limited at both ends as Ranchers Bees matched Inter Lagos’ intensity, forcing the opening 45 minutes to end goalless.
Inter Lagos, however, returned from the break with renewed urgency and quickly found the breakthrough. Just two minutes into the second half, Qoyum Akinpelu fired home from inside the area after a well-worked attacking move to hand his side a deserved 1-0 lead.
The goal lifted Inter Lagos’ confidence as they began to dominate possession and create more openings.
Akinpelu nearly doubled the advantage moments later after driving forward on another dangerous attack, but his effort narrowly missed the target.
Their persistence paid off in the 70th minute when Akinpelu was brought down inside the penalty area following another incisive run.
Captain Bayo Oyedele calmly converted the resulting penalty to extend the lead to 2-0 and put the game beyond Ranchers Bees.
With the advantage secured, Inter Lagos controlled proceedings comfortably in the closing stages, restricting Ranchers Bees to few meaningful opportunities while seeing out the victory professionally.
The result not only restores confidence within the Inter Lagos camp but also keeps their ambitions alive heading into their final Super Four fixture.
They will conclude their campaign on Friday in a much-anticipated Lagos Derby clash against Sporting Lagos, a match expected to provide another thrilling contest in Ikenne.
This crucial victory ensures that Inter Lagos remains a strong contender in the promotion race as the tournament reaches its climax. The team's ability to bounce back from an opening defeat sets the stage for a high-stakes finale in the upcoming Lagos Derby.
