2025/2026 NNL: Coach Mabo commends Doma United proprietor after promotion success

Posted : 07 April 2026

Head Coach of Doma United, Najib Mabo, has credited the club’s successful return to the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) to the unwavering support and confidence shown in him by the club’s proprietor, Suleiman Umar.

The “Savannah Tigers” secured promotion from Conference C of the 2025/2026 Nigeria National League (NNL) season with a match to spare, marking a swift return to the topflight following their relegation in 2024.

Despite suffering a 3-1 defeat to Kada Warriors in their final fixture of the campaign, Doma United’s promotion had already been confirmed. The team finished top of the table with 26 points, recording eight wins from 14 matches in an impressive campaign.

Speaking after sealing promotion, Mabo emphasized that the achievement would not have been possible without the strong backing of the club’s leadership.

He praised Umar for maintaining a professional approach, particularly by allowing him full control over technical decisions.

“I want to sincerely appreciate the president of Doma United, Suleiman Umar (Mai Doma), for the confidence he reposed in me.

When I was appointed, he assured me of non-interference in my job, and he kept to that promise. He gave me complete freedom without imposing any player on me,” he said.

The coach also highlighted the importance of the club’s administrative efficiency, noting that prompt payment of salaries, match bonuses, and travel allowances played a key role in motivating the players and ensuring consistent performances throughout the season.

“He provided everything we needed, including the necessary equipment, which made our work easier and contributed greatly to this success,” he added.

Najib Mabo, son of Nigerian football legend Ismaila Mabo, expressed satisfaction at delivering promotion in return for the trust placed in him.

“He believed in me, and I am happy I was able to repay that trust with promotion to the NPFL,” Mabo concluded.

Doma United will now look ahead to life back in the NPFL, aiming to build on their momentum and re-establish themselves among Nigeria’s elite clubs.

The successful campaign serves as a testament to the power of administrative stability and technical autonomy in Nigerian football. With their return to the topflight secured, the Gombe-based side appears well-positioned to compete at the highest level once again. Fans now look forward to seeing the Savannah Tigers resume their local rivalries on the national stage.
