Nigeria’s only remaining team in continental football, Rivers United, is set to depart for Cairo ahead of their 2025/2026 CAF Champions League Match Day One clash with defending champions Pyramids FC.
The Pride of Rivers arrived in Lagos on Tuesday from Port Harcourt and will fly out via Murtala Muhammed International Airport as they continue preparations for their highly anticipated group-stage debut.
The opening fixture will take place on Saturday at the iconic 30 June Stadium in Cairo, where Finidi George’s tutored team will aim to make a strong statement against one of North Africa’s most formidable sides.
This season marks Rivers United’s first-ever appearance in the CAF Champions League group stage, a milestone the club hopes to commemorate with a positive start.
Following their clash in Egypt, the Nigerian side will return home to host Moroccan heavyweights RS Berkane in their second group-stage match, scheduled for Friday, 28 November, at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo.
Rivers United will be looking to navigate the group successfully as they chase continental glory and aim to establish themselves among Africa’s elite football clubs.
