Speaking in an interview on Monday in Abuja, Adesomo said City FC demonstrated remarkable consistency and tactical discipline throughout the group phase.
“City FC is a team to reckon with, and their promotion to the NNL is well-deserved,” he said. “They went unbeaten during the preliminary round, winning all their matches, which speaks volumes about their quality.”
Adesomo commended the team’s balance and structure, highlighting the depth of talent in all departments—from goalkeeper to forward line.
“With such a complete and disciplined squad, City FC has the potential to reach even greater heights, possibly gaining promotion to the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) in the near future,” he added.
City FC is one of four clubs that secured promotion from the recently concluded first phase of the 2025 NLO season, alongside Kano Ambassadors, Mai Kunkele United (Niger State), and Warinje FC (Bauchi State). These teams emerged as group champions following competitive matches in the playoff series, which ran from June 12 to June 22.
The Nationwide League One continues to serve as a vital platform for grassroots football development in Nigeria, offering young talents an opportunity to grow within a professional structure while feeding the upper tiers of Nigerian football.
With the conclusion of the playoff phase, focus now shifts to the upcoming NNL season, where the newly promoted sides will aim to prove themselves against more established clubs.
