2024 FA Cup: AYD defeat Keffi Warriors to set up S/final clash with Nasarawa Utd

Posted : 22 March 2024

Nationwide League One side, AYD of Doma, produced a scintillating performance on Wednesday at the Lafia City Stadium, dumping the hard-fighting Keffi Warriors out of the 2024 Nasarawa State Federation's Cup with a 3-2 victory.

The curtain-raiser clash of the competition saw Isiyaka Saidu, Joseph Atule Junior, and Thomas Nuhu scoring AYD's goals, while Jamiu Abdulraqib and Adamu Suleiman netted for Keffi Warriors.

The result propelled the Doma-based side to the semi-finals of the oldest knockout inter-club association football competition in Nigeria, where they will face Nigeria National League side Nasarawa United on Monday, March 25, 2024, at the Lafia City Stadium at 3 pm.

Thomas Nuhu of AYD emerged as the Man-of-the-Match after an excellent showing.

Nasarawa State Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Honorable Jafaru Ango, accompanied by the Chairman of Nasarawa State Football Association, Salisu Galadima (a.k.a Basira), and a few key stakeholders, performed the honorary kick-off of the competition, which featured some colorful activities.

Speaking to the press shortly after the full-time whistle, Chairman of AYD FC, Abdullahi Yakubu Doma, said he was impressed with his team's performance and noted that he would be looking forward to the clash against the 12-time winners of the FA Cup, Nasarawa United, in the semi-final.

"I am happy with the performance of my team today.

"We are ready to face any team, irrespective of their status, even though with due respect to our next opponents.

"Playing in the final is our target, and I would want that to be against the current Champions, Basira FC, if results favor them in their games."

For the next match, City Rollers FC of Nasarawa Local Government Area will square up against Aunan Babes FC of Keffi at 3 pm in what has been dubbed a "rivalry clash."

Seven teams are participating in this year's edition of the Nasarawa State Federation Cup.

The eventual champions and runners-up team on Saturday, March 30, 2024, will represent Nasarawa State at the expanded National Federation's Cup competition.
