2024/2025 NWFL Super Six: Debutant Remo Stars Ladies FC secures first defending Edo Queens

Hostilities began at the ongoing 2024/2025 Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership Super Six Playoffs with a thrilling kickoff on Saturday, May 10, at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne, Ogun State.


Matchday One delivered drama, goals, and surprises as Nasarawa Amazons, Bayelsa Queens, and hosts Remo Stars Ladies each claimed crucial victories to set the tone for what promises to be a fiercely contested championship race.


The youthful hosts, buoyed by an energetic home crowd, showcased tactical discipline and composure against a more experienced Edo side.


For much of the game, chances were few and far between until the 88th minute when substitute Olasubomi Ogundele capitalized on a defensive lapse to fire in the winner, sending the stadium into a frenzy.


Edo Queens pushed for an equalizer in the dying minutes but failed to break down the resolute Remo Stars defense.


The result gives the newcomers a dream start to their campaign while dealing an early blow to the champions’ title defense.


After Matchday One, Nasarawa Amazons, Bayelsa Queens, and Remo Stars Ladies sit atop the table with three points each, while Naija Ratels, Rivers Angels, and Edo Queens are yet to get off the mark.


Sunday, May 12, is designated as a rest day, providing teams with a breather before the second round of fixtures on Monday, May 13.

Remo Stars Ladies vs Naija Ratels

Rivers Angels vs Edo Queens
