2024/2025 NWFL Super 6 gets venue, May 8 date, as team set for showdown

Posted : 30 April 2025

Remo Stars Stadium, Ikenne, Ogun, will host the 2024/2025 Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership Super Six tournament, the league has announced.

In a statement by Sam Ahmadu, the media officer of the league, the tournament is scheduled to take place from May 8 to May 17 at the home ground of Remo Stars Ladies.

NWFL Chairperson, Nkechi Obi, said the choice of Ikenne was made to further revive the development of the game in the region.

“This is a significant opportunity to further stimulate the revival of women’s football in the state—fondly remembered as the host of the inaugural Women’s Africa Cup of Nations finals in 1998.

“Last year (2024), we hosted the competition in Yenagoa, South-South, and now we’re excited to bring it to Ikenne in the South-West, in line with our #WomenFootballRising agenda.

“The aim is simply to spread elite women’s football across every region of Nigeria.”

“This marks the first time Ikenne will host the NWFL Premiership playoffs and comes just two years after Remo Stars Ladies secured their promotion to the NWFL topflight,” Obi added.

The tournament will be played in a round-robin format, with all six teams playing five matches each.

Teams are expected to arrive on May 8, with the tournament draw and pre-match meeting scheduled for the following day.

Meanwhile, five clubs have already booked their places in the tournament: Rivers Angels, Nasarawa Amazons, Bayelsa Queens, Edo Queens, and Remo Stars Ladies.

The sixth and final slot will be determined after the decisive Matchweek 14 clash between Robo Queens and Naija Ratels on Wednesday.

The NWFL league has produced different champions in the last four editions—Rivers Angels (2021), Bayelsa Queens (2022), Delta Queens (2023), and Edo Queens (2024).

The winner of this season will represent Nigeria at the WAFU-B Qualifiers for a place in the 2025 CAF Women’s Champions League and the inaugural 2026 FIFA Women’s Club Championship.
