Remo Stars Ladies’ shot-stopper Charlotte Adjei has been named the 2024/25 Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership Goalkeeper of the Season, becoming the second foreign player in three years to claim the honor.
The Ghanaian goalkeeper, in her debut season with the Ikenne-based club, kept 10 clean sheets in 19 league appearances, anchoring the defense of a team that finished fifth overall.
Her efforts were recognized with the prestigious Safe Hands Award, which comes with a ₦200,000 cash prize courtesy of the Judith Chime Foundation.
Adjei follows in the footsteps of Cameroonian goalkeeper Bawou Ange Gabrielle, who won the award in 2022 while playing for league champions Bayelsa Queens.
Adjei credited her success to her teammates, coaches, and the support of the club.
“My experience in Remo Stars Ladies has helped me a lot to showcase myself this season,” she said. “The coaches’ advice, hard work, and the motivation from Honourable Kunle Soname were massive.
“I am grateful to the Almighty God who made this possible for me. It means a lot, and I thank all my teammates—if not for their hard work, I wouldn’t be recognized. I love them.”
Adjei also highlighted the role of her past experiences with top African clubs in preparing her for success.
“My time with Ampem Darkoa and Rivers Angels, especially in the CAF Women’s Champions League, helped shape me. The coaches and players there encouraged me every day.”
With a strong debut campaign behind her, Adjei is aiming higher next season as Remo Stars Ladies target a title challenge in the 2025/26 NWFL Premiership season.
