2024/2025 NWFL Playoffs: Nasarawa Amazons return to winning ways

Nasarawa Amazons returned to winning form on Tuesday with a 2-1 victory over Rivers Angels in Matchday Three of the 2024/25 Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership Super Six at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne.


Following a 1-1 draw with Bayelsa Queens on Monday, the 2017 champions responded with a solid performance, thanks to a first-half brace from Jenat Akekeromowei.


Akekeromowei opened the scoring in the 24th minute, converting a corner kick, and doubled the lead just six minutes later—goals that ultimately sealed all three points for the Solid Babes.


Rivers Angels fought back after the break and halved the deficit through captain Catherine Kenneth, who scored from a spectacular long-range free kick that beat goalkeeper Udoka Unachukwu.


Despite late pressure from the seven-time champions, Nasarawa Amazons held firm to secure their second win of the playoffs and climbed to seven points from three matches.


Christopher Danjuma’s side now prepares to face host team Remo Stars Ladies on Thursday, while Rivers Angels will take on Naija Ratels in their search for a second win.
