Defending champions Edo Queens secured their first win of the 2024/25 Nigeria Women’s Football League (NWFL) Premiership Super Six, defeating Naija Ratels 2-0 at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne, Ogun State.
After going winless in their opening two matches, the Benin-based side found form early in the contest, with Emem Essien scoring a quickfire brace in the first half.
Essien opened the scoring in the 20th minute before doubling the lead just two minutes later, sealing the points for Moses Aduku’s side.
The result marked Edo Queens’ third win in four meetings with Naija Ratels, maintaining their unbeaten run in the fixture.
The victory lifts Edo Queens to four points from three matches as they prepare for a crucial encounter against Bayelsa Queens on Thursday.
Naija Ratels, still seeking their first point of the tournament, will face Rivers Angels next.
