2024/2025 NWFL Playoffs: Bayelsa Queens hand Remo Stars Ladies first defeat

Bayelsa Queens boosted their title hopes in the 2024/25 Nigeria Women’s Football League (NWFL) Premiership Super Six with a commanding 2-0 win over Remo Stars Ladies in Ikenne.


The Prosperity Girls struck twice in the first half to hand the host team their first defeat of the tournament.


Chinwe Akabike opened the scoring in the 12th minute with a composed finish inside the box, before Sefiat Idris doubled the lead 13 minutes later with a stunning long-range strike from a tight angle.


Despite a spirited second-half effort, including a shot that struck the crossbar, Remo Stars Ladies were unable to find a way back into the match.


The victory lifts Bayelsa Queens to seven points from three games, level with Nasarawa Amazons but ahead on goal difference, placing them at the top of the Super Six standings.


Next up for Bayelsa Queens is a high-stakes clash against fellow former champions Edo Queens on Thursday. Remo Stars Ladies will look to bounce back when they face in-form Nasarawa Amazons.
