2024/2025 NWFL Match Week 13: Benue Queens end 2024/2025 season with a draw against Adamawa Queens FC

Posted : 24 April 2025

In a fiery and emotionally charged "Reversed Redemption" fixture at the Lafia City Stadium, Benue Queens FC hosted Adamawa Queens FC in Matchday 13 of the 2024/2025 NWFL campaign. The game delivered pure drama, heavy grit, and raw passion.

The match kicked off at 1:05 PM with the hosts being purposeful, pressing high, and seeking an early breakthrough. But despite their aggressive opening approach, it was the visitors who stunned the home crowd first.

In the 12th minute, Adamawa Queens' Afensimi Omon latched onto a loose ball and fired in to give the visitors a 0-1 lead against the run of play.

Benue Queens didn’t fold. The trio of Saawua Comfort, Alex Hellen, and Ikyagh Joy kept the Adamawa defense on their toes with relentless pressure, but they couldn’t convert chances into goals before halftime.

After the break, Coach Bashiru Liadi’s team emerged revitalized. With Comfort and Hellen driving forward, Owojori Racheal adding width, and Onuzor Favor offering a direct threat, the Queens turned up the heat.

A tactical substitution saw Elizabeth Lateef make way for Emefo Anastasia, bringing new energy to the midfield and tightening their grip on the tempo.

The match took a wild turn in the second half. In the 56th minute, Adamawa were reduced to 10 after a second yellow card. Just three minutes later, more chaos ensued: a reckless tackle on Hellen in the box led to another red card and a penalty.

Amid heated protests and momentary threats to walk off, Adamawa returned, only for Ikyagh Joy to calmly convert from the spot in the 68th minute to level things 1-1.

The drama didn’t stop there. Against the run of play, Adamawa were awarded a free kick. Dzer Josephine took advantage, controlling the ball before shooting towards the goal post. The ball deflected and wrong-footed the keeper, restoring the visitors' lead in the 75th minute.

But Benue Queens weren’t done. In the 82nd minute, a desperate handball by an Adamawa defender inside the box gave the hosts another lifeline.

Anastasia Emefo, the impact sub, smashed it home in the 83rd minute to level the scoreline once again at 2-2.

The final minutes saw Benue Queens throw everything forward in search of a winner. Crosses, shots, and final balls came thick and fast, but the elusive third goal never arrived. The final whistle confirmed a dramatic stalemate.

With this result, Benue Queens FC will now shift focus to their last NWFL fixture of the season next midweek: an away clash against Rivers Angels in Port Harcourt.

A high-stakes showdown where they will hope to close the season on a redemptive note, having shown flashes of their lost glory in this thrilling encounter.
