Heartland Queens will continue their dogged search for their first away point(s) against two-season campaigners Dannaz Ladies in Wednesday's NWFL Premiership Matchday 13 at the iconic waterfront Mobolaji Johnson Arena (Onikan Stadium) on Lagos Island.
Wednesday's showdown will be the fourth time the sides have met in the topflight, with the previous three clashes resulting in one win each and a draw.
Leading up to Wednesday's matchup, both sides experienced mixed fortunes in their Matchday 12 fixtures.
While the visitors shared the spoils with a 1-1 draw against Ikenne-based premier leaguers Remo Stars Ladies in Owerri, the hosts, Dannaz Ladies, were humbled 3-1 by champions and league leaders Edo Queens in the ancient city of Benin.
A positive for the Owerri side is that their head coach remains the same throughout the matchups—Coach Obi Ogbala. He is expected to draw on his wealth of experience to conjure a potent lineup that could earn his team their first away point(s) of the season, this time against the hosts from Nigeria’s commercial and excellence hub, Lagos.
Both teams have effectively fallen out of contention for the regular season's premium prize—the NWFL Premiership Super Six playoff—due to their current sixth and seventh-place standings in the eight-team Group A log. They are likely now focused on restoring pride and achieving a respectable final placement when the regular season concludes on Wednesday, April 30.
Ogbala appears to have found the right formula lately, especially in the last game against the Sky Blue Ladies from Ikenne, Ogun State. He may be compelled to field a largely unchanged lineup to fight for maximum points against the experienced Dannaz Ladies.
Young goalkeeper Amarachi Atulayo is expected to retain her spot between the posts, while a solid backline may consist of regulars Oluomachi Onwere, Nnenna Williams, Ebubechi Ozuruigbo, Prisca Nwachukwu, and Ezinne Wokocha. Midfield options could include Faith Samson, Oluchi Okwara, Chizoba Johnson, and youngster Endurance Omoraka. The attacking duties are likely to fall to captain Chimebere Opara, Emmanuella James, Onyinyechi Kalu, Oluebube Umejiaku, and returnee Blessing Saleh.
