Bayelsa Queens FC defeated Rivers Angels 1-0 in a Matchday 13 fixture of the NWFL Premiership on Wednesday, April 23, 2025, at the Samson Siasia Stadium in Yenagoa, maintaining their 100% winning home record.
Both teams, already qualified for the Super Six, were playing for the top spot in Group B.
Alaba Olabiyi scored the only goal of the game in the 3rd minute from a corner kick delivered by Dooshima Tarnum.
Nine minutes into the match, play was halted due to a heavy downpour that made the pitch unplayable. After a 23-minute delay, the game resumed.
The Prosperity Girls missed a chance to make it 2-0 from the penalty spot, as Alexander Florence fired her shot over the crossbar in the 45th minute.
The win means Bayelsa Queens FC have won 10 matches and drawn 3 in 13 games, earning 33 points.
"I'm happy that out of the six points at stake against Rivers Angels, we earned 4 points. It was a good result for Bayelsa Queens," Bayelsa Queens Technical Adviser, Whyte Ogbonda, said.
"My target and the team's target is to qualify for the CAF Women's Champions League, and to do that, we need to win the Super Six in Ikenne," Coach Whyte Ogbonda added.
