Despite putting up a spirited resistance, Rivers United FC on Sunday beat Nasarawa United FC 2-1 to end the season’s campaign with a win.
The Pride of Rivers had everything to play for as they wrapped up their season with a 2-1 victory over Nasarawa United at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium, thanks to goals from Muyiwa Adeola Fehintola and Aniekeme Okon.
Shina Kumater netted a consolation goal for the visitors. The result secured a second-place finish for Rivers United with 64 points — seven behind champions Remo Stars — while Nasarawa United ended the campaign in 12th place with 52 points.
The coach of Rivers United FC, Finidi George, thanked the management and the fans for their continuous support.
“I am grateful to the management of Rivers United and also the fans for their unrelenting support to the team.
“We have come a long way together this season, through thick and thin, and now the season has ended,” he said.
