On-the-brink Katsina United FC on Sunday escaped relegation on the final day as they edged 2025 President Federation Cup finalists, Kwara United FC, in the 2024/2025 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Match Day 38 encounter at the Mohammadu Dikko Stadium.
The Changi Boys needed a miracle — a maximum of three points — to secure safety, while the Harmony Boys, who still have a chance at continental football if they beat Abakaliki FC, had nothing to lose.
Despite having little at stake, Kwara United FC showed grit and held their ground with a solid defensive display.
It was the home side, the Changi Boys, who took their chance in the 34th minute, with Mubarak Said scoring the only goal of the match.
Katsina United head coach, Azeez Audu, after the match, said his team would compete for the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) title next season.
“Next season, we will fight for the league because I am coming back with something different.
It’s time to correct our mistakes ahead of the new season.
Thanks to our electrifying fans for standing with us throughout the season,” he said.
The Changi Boys finished the 2024/25 NPFL campaign in 15th position.
