Heartland FC of Owerri on Sunday failed the survival test as they were drowned in the relegation waters after fighting for their lives.
Recall that this is the second time the Naze Millionaires have been relegated to the lower division of Nigerian football within the space of two seasons.
Heartland FC was relegated to the lower league, the Nigeria National League (NNL), after the 2023/2024 NPFL season but got reinstated after they bought the slot of Beyond Limits, who got promoted but failed to satisfy the conditions to play in the elite league since their sister club, Remo Stars, is already playing in the elite league.
The Naze Millionaires, despite this favour, failed to make use of the opportunity as they once again faltered and are now back in the lower league.
It was another twist, however, as many pundits had tipped the Owerri boys to survive the drop only if they could beat Akwa United in their final league game of the 2024/2025 NPFL fixture, but things did not work in their favour as results from other centres did not favour them.
It is also on record that the Naze Millionaires have now been relegated for the fourth time in the last decade, despite holding a record as a team that had never been relegated in their history before 2016.
