2024/2025 NPFL Match Day 37: Rangers International opens floodgate of goals on Katsina United FC

Posted : 12 May 2025

The atmosphere at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium crackled with anticipation as Rangers International delivered a commanding performance, dismantling Katsina United 4-0 in a Match Day 37 encounter of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) 2024/2025 season.

The emphatic victory sent a clear message of intent from the Flying Antelopes as the season draws to a close.

The tone for the afternoon was set early by the predatory instincts of Godwin Obaje.

In the 13th minute, he rose majestically to meet a pinpoint cross from Kenneth Igboke, his header leaving the Katsina United goalkeeper with no chance.

Obaje doubled his tally just thirteen minutes later, calmly slotting home a penalty after the lively Silas Nenrot was brought down inside the 18-yard box.

The home crowd erupted with delight as their team established a comfortable two-goal cushion.

Katsina United emerged from the halftime break with renewed vigor, their coaches introducing Damala Promise and Mubarak Sai'd in a bid to claw their way back into the contest.

For a period, they piled pressure on the Rangers defense, forcing Opara Austin and Patrick Egeonu into resolute action.

The central defensive pairing stood firm, repelling wave after wave of attacks and ensuring the clean sheet remained intact.

As the game wore on, Rangers weathered the storm and began to reassert their dominance.

In the 78th minute, Isaac Saviour put the result beyond doubt with a well-taken strike, further dampening the spirits of the away side.

The icing on the cake came in added time when teenage sensation Chimobi Igwilo, a bright spark for the Enugu-based club, added his name to the scoresheet, sending the home fans into raptures.

The final whistle blew, confirming a resounding 4-0 victory for Rangers International.

Speaking after the match, a satisfied Coach Fidelis Ilechukwu acknowledged the stellar performance of his team. "It was a great match, and the result would have been even better if we had capitalized on all our chances," he noted.

"We will carry this momentum into our next match and work hard to achieve the results that will help us reach our set targets for the season."

This emphatic win will undoubtedly boost Rangers' confidence as they navigate the final stretch of the NPFL season and the President Federation Cup 2025, in which the team has qualified to play in the semi-finals, with sights firmly set on achieving the club's set objectives.

Rangers now occupy the 8th spot on the log with 52 points from 37 matches and will round off the NPFL season with a trip to Ibadan for a date with 3SC of Ibadan.
