The 2024/2025 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Match Day 37 in Ikenne comes with a special treat, as the awaiting league champions, Remo Stars FC, will wear their crown after the southwest derby match against Ikorodu City FC, regardless of the outcome of the match.
The NPFL Match Day 37 southwest derby game is Remo Stars’ first home match after being officially crowned the newly minted NPFL champions. It may also be a moment of joy for the team to celebrate with a win in front of their fans.
The Sky Blue Stars had lost 2024/2025 NPFL Match Day 36 away to El-Kanemi Warriors last weekend and will want to avoid back-to-back defeats.
However, they must be cautious against an Ikorodu City side sitting third, enjoying a strong debut season, and possessing a lethal attack that could unsettle the home team, Remo Stars.
Oga Boys are relentlessly chasing a continental ticket, which adds real weight to this clash for both teams.
The management of the NPFL has adjusted the kickoff time for the Match Day 37 fixture between newly crowned champions Remo Stars and Ikorodu City.
The match, originally set for 4:00 p.m., will now begin at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday.
According to Davidson Owumi, Chief Operating Officer of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), the change is aimed at ensuring the safety of dignitaries and fans expected to travel from Lagos to Ikenne for the trophy presentation ceremony after the match.
“We anticipate a large number of fans and dignitaries traveling from Lagos. For safety reasons, especially considering return travel, it’s best they make the journey back during daylight,” Owumi stated.
Plans are well underway to stage a grand and memorable trophy presentation.
“A collaborative team from the NPFL and Remo Stars management is finalizing the event arrangements,” he said.
