It was a rain of goals as Kwara United demolished Lobi Stars of Makurdi in the NPFL Matchday 35 encounter played on Sunday at the Rashidi Yekini Mainbowl of the George Innih Stadium, Ilorin.
Wasiu Alalade broke another record by scoring just six seconds into the game, replicating a similar feat he achieved two seasons ago against Remo Stars. Eleven minutes later, Junior Aimufua doubled the lead with a perfect connection from Ibrahim Yahaya’s cross.
Lobi Stars eventually settled into the game, creating a few chances, but Kwara United goalkeeper Suraju Ayeleso made crucial saves to ensure the Harmony Boys went into halftime with a 2-0 lead. However, Kwara United suffered a setback when Ibrahim Yahaya picked up an injury and was replaced by Alao Mohammed.
In the second half, although Junior Aimufua wasted a few opportunities, he later found the back of the net again in the 81st minute to complete his brace. Ismail Gatta then sealed the emphatic victory with the fourth goal in the 90th minute.
Tactical substitutions by Coach Tunde Sanni, which saw Abdullahi Ojifinni, Ismaila Gatta, and Akanni Akeem making way for Wasiu Alalade, Issa Gatta, and Shola AbdulRaheem, further strengthened the team’s attacking power.
Reacting after the game, Coach Tunde Sanni expressed relief, admitting that the team had been under pressure before the match. He emphasized that the team would build on the momentum as they prepare for the quarterfinals of the President Federation Cup against Akwa United next Saturday in Enugu.
“It’s time to show Akwa United that we are ready to avenge our NPFL loss,” he said.
Junior Aimufua was later awarded the Cyteck Man of the Match, sponsored by Engr. Ahmed Olaide, for his outstanding performance.
Kwara United remain 12th on the NPFL table after 35 games and will next face Enyimba International in Aba.
