2024/2025 NPFL Match Day 35: Bayelsa United FC's progression excites Bosso

Posted : 28 April 2025

After seeing his side secure the much-needed victory over El-Kanemi Warriors at the Samson Siasia Stadium in Yenagoa on Sunday, Bayelsa United FC's coach, Ladan Bosso, heaped praises on the team for their resilience.

The Prosperity Boys defeated the Desert Warriors 2-1 in the 2024/2025 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Match Day 35 fixture, which moved the previously relegation-threatened team up to 9th position on the table.

Recall that after surviving the relegation scare, Bayelsa United FC has been able to climb the NPFL ladder by winning some important matches.

The away team, El-Kanemi Warriors, took the lead first, scoring from the penalty spot in the 14th minute.

However, the home side quickly responded, with Mustapha Jawad converting a penalty in the 18th minute.

After a hard-fought match, the Prosperity Boys scored a last-gasp goal in the 89th minute, with forward Eyong Ofem getting on the scoresheet.

Bayelsa United coach Bosso lauded his team for coming from behind to win the tricky match.

“We expected such a brave fight, we planned for it, and that is why the substitutes gave us the result.

“I praise the resilience of my team. They played well in the second half with the changes made. There was a penalty against them and one against us.

“The penalty was needed, and they were clinical. By the time we got our second goal, they had no chance to hurt us again.

“Then we needed to seal the defense. Today, we thank God that we have secured our position in the NPFL for next season,” he said.

The assistant coach of El-Kanemi Warriors said that the team's plan was to escape with three points but failed.

“The plan was to get the three points at stake, but that is football. We thought we could escape with one point, and suddenly they scored. I don’t want to dwell on the officiating, we were defeated.

“It’s not good for us, and that’s why the boys were fighting on the field to make something out of the match.

“We are going home to face Remo Stars, and it is a must-win match for us. We cannot compromise that at all.”
