It was yet another historic win for the league title-chasing Remo Stars FC on Sunday after securing back-to-back victories over their southwest arch-rivals, Shooting Stars SC of Ibadan.
The Sky Blue Stars’ lone victory over the Oluyole Warriors at the ghost city Lekan Salami Stadium in Ibadan means they have beaten their southwest rivals both home and away, marking their fifth away victory of the season.
Alex Oyowah’s first-half strike settled the contest between the Sky Blue Stars and Shooting Stars at Lekan Salami Stadium. Daniel Ogunmodede’s men thus completed a double over the Oluyole Warriors, whom they had earlier defeated in Ikenne.
The much-needed victory means that the Sky Blue Stars are one step closer to clinching their first-ever Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) title, maintaining a seven-point gap at the top.
Oyowah connected with a precise cross from Ismail Sodiq, sending the ball into the top corner and securing all three points for Remo Stars.
This win strengthens their grip on the top of the NPFL standings, ahead of Rivers United, who are seven points behind.
With just four games left in the 2024/2025 season, the Sky Blue Stars’ coach, Daniel Ogunmodede, remains coy about his team's chances of winning their first-ever silverware.
Despite the excitement from fans and pundits hailing Remo Stars as near-certain champions, Coach Daniel Ogunmodede remains firmly grounded.
“We don’t need to relax on our laurels. We are not getting carried away with congratulatory messages,” Ogunmodede said post-match.
“We fully understand that a champion will always emerge at the end. So, we are going to fight until the end.
“We’ve had the opportunity to be champions for close to 2-3 seasons. We don’t want to be 'nearly' again; we want to be champions. And to be a champion, we need to fight again. That’s what we will do for the remaining four games.”
