2024/2025 NPFL Match Day 34: Defending champions, Rangers Int'l FC, shakes off Lobi Stars

Posted : 20 April 2025

The defending champions of the Nigerian League, Rangers International FC, have returned to winning ways, breaking the home ground voodoo with an emphatic 4-2 victory over Lobi Stars in the 2024/2025 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Match Day 34 at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, popularly known as the Cathedral.

Recall that the Flying Antelopes had lost a couple of home games, but they were able to redeem themselves in the "home away from home" game against the Nigeria National League (NNL)-bound Alia Boys.

The Flying Antelopes put on an emphatic display, defeating Lobi Stars 4-2.

The win ends a four-game league winless drought for the Flying Antelopes and keeps their quest for a continental spot alive.

Rangers were ruthless in attack, with Godwin Obaje bagging a brace, Nenrot Silas adding one, and Saviour Isaac scoring a sensational long-range goal from over 35 yards that lit up the stadium.

The victory sees Rangers climb to 49 points, holding 5th place on the table. It’s also back-to-back wins across all competitions for the Enugu side, who now look well-positioned in the race for a top-three finish.

Meanwhile, Lobi Stars’ struggles continue as they remain rooted to the bottom of the table with 25 points. With just a handful of games left, the 2018 NPFL champions are staring relegation in the face.

Commenting on the outcome of the game, Lobi coach Anthony Bulus said they came prepared to win but saw a different result.

He attributed the humiliating defeat in Enugu to poor officiating.
