Akwa United has once again been dropped into the relegation zone after an uninspiring 0-0 draw against Kwara United FC in the 2024/2025 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Match Day 34, played at the Dan Anyiam Stadium in Owerri.
The Naze Millionaires, coached by Super Eagles legend Emmanuel Amuneke, missed the opportunity to move out of the relegation zone into a safer position with the unfortunate scoreless draw.
After half an hour of play, Kwara United held firm, defending well and repelling attacks from the Heartland FC forwards.
Kwara United coach Tunde Sani made a double substitution in the 56th minute to add some bite, with Adekunle Oluwasegun and Jimoh Wasiu making way for Jimoh Gbadamosi and Ismaila Gata.
The Naze Millionaires were then forced to make a substitution in the 85th minute, as Benjamin Victor replaced the injured Ejike Ikwu for the hosts.
The Naze Millionaires pressed for a late breakthrough but were denied by resolute defense marshaled by the Harmony Boys.
As a result, Heartland FC returns to the drop zone in 17th position with 42 points, four points better than Akwa United, who are in 18th position with 38 points.
