2024/2025 NPFL Match Day 15: Managerless Bendel Insurance faces Plateau United FC amidst uncertainty

The most striking aspect of the 2024/2025 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Match Day 15 clash between hosts Bendel Insurance and Plateau United FC is how both teams have experienced a downward spiral in their pedigree within just two years.


The Peace Boys finished sixth on the NPFL log last season but have not been impressive this season.


For Bendel Insurance, it is a tale of two contrasting poles: from an unbeaten streak to becoming the league’s whipping boys.

Just two seasons ago, under the guidance of Monday Odigie, Bendel Insurance made history with their record-breaking unbeaten streak of 18 matches, culminating in a 1-1 away draw against Nasarawa United FC to end the regular season of the 2022/2023 Abridged Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL).


That record still stands today, but the Benin Arsenals now find themselves on the opposite end of the spectrum, rooted in 20th position with just 12 points from 14 NPFL matches.


Bendel Insurance is also without a head coach, as Odigie has resigned from the team. The club has yet to appoint a substantive coach, leaving the team under the care of the assistant coach.


It will be a battle of wits for Bendel Insurance and Plateau United, as the NPFL Match Day 15 encounter at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium on Saturday is shaping up to be a relegation battle.

Since 2023, Bendel Insurance FC and Plateau United have faced each other in four matches, with Bendel Insurance winning two, one match ending in a draw, and one win for Plateau United.
