After their back-to-back league title pursuit received a setback following a three-point deduction by the league management body, defending champions Enyimba International FC will welcome relegation-threatened Bayelsa United FC to their stadium in Aba for the 2023/2024 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Match Day 36.

Recall that the Peoples Elephant were sanctioned by the league body for breaching its framework and rules in their Matchday 35 encounter.

The league governing body awarded three points and three goals to Rangers International and fined Enyimba FC the sum of ten million naira (#10m) for breaching the frameworks.

The Oriental derby, Matchday 35 encounter between both teams at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium on Sunday was abandoned following the alleged controversial penalty awarded to the home team, Rangers International, in the dying minutes.

Meanwhile, the hosts, Rangers International, will pay a fine of N5m for various offenses, including non-provision of adequate security, encroachment onto the pitch by fans and other unauthorized persons, as well as sales of tickets to spectators exceeding the stadium capacity leading to encroachment of the pitch.

The failed point in Enugu means that Enyimba International will have an uphill task to chase Rangers International FC, who are now comfortable atop the league table, opening a five-point lead.

Rangers International tops the table with 64 points, while Enyimba International follows with 59 points.

With the Peoples Elephant welcoming Bayelsa United FC, a team battling for survival in the league, it will be an interesting match.

The Prosperity Boys currently sit in 17th position with 43 points after suffering a slip at home against visiting Sporting Lagos FC in a 2-2 draw.
