Akwa United winger, Ubong Friday, has assured the club's fans of safety from relegation danger in the 2023/2024 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season.

Ubong claimed that the Promise Keepers will maintain their momentum when they visit Sunshine Stars of Akure in Matchday 35 of the NPFL after his side claimed a 2-0 win over Heartland International FC in Uyo.

Buoyed by two impressive results in the NPFL over Lobi Stars in Lafia and Heartland in Uyo, the former champions lifted themselves to 14th on the log.

Ubong was instrumental in Akwa United's victory over Heartland as he scored the opening goal, and his low cross was deflected into the net by a Heartland defender in the Matchday 34 played at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium on Monday.

Akwa United began the match in the drop zone and needed a win to boost their chances of escaping the relegation zone.

After a goalless first half, the Promise Keepers continued their attacking threat and got their reward when Ubong Friday turned smartly inside the box before hitting a superb shot beyond the goalkeeper into the net to give his team a deserved lead.

Moments later, the Promise Keepers doubled their lead when Heartland defender Chinedu Ozor, in an attempt to clear Ubong Friday's low cross inside the six-yard box, accidentally tucked the ball into his own net.

Coach Muhammed Baba Ganaru's team dominated their visitors and could have scored more goals, but efforts by Sani Suleiman, Osoba Kabir, and Seyi Oguntayo were unsuccessful. However, they were able to see off the game and secure their 12th victory of the season.

Speaking after the match, Ubong disclosed that the team will continue to maintain their momentum until the end of the season.

"Two straight victories in the last league matches have given us confidence. We just need to keep believing, focus, and maintain momentum in the remaining matches," he stated.

With the win, Akwa United, who won their last away match in Lafia over Lobi Stars, improved their standing on the log to 14th position with 43 points and will aim to continue their upward movement in the table when they travel to Akure to engage Sunshine Stars on Matchday 35 this weekend.
