2023/2024 NNL Match Day 10: Nasarawa United FC records first away win of the season

Posted : 11 March 2024

The Solid Miners achieved back-to-back victories for the first time this season by securing maximum points against hosts NAF FC at the Area 3 Football Field in Abuja during the 2023/24 Nigeria National League match-day 10.

After a goalless first 45 minutes, Nasarawa United's superior experience shone through. Substitute and former Nigerian junior international, King Osanga, initiated a build-up, feeding the newly acquired Peter Eneji, who skillfully navigated through defenders before delivering a defense-splitting pass to another new addition, Okonkwo Chinonso. He scored in the 68th minute, marking his first goal in United's colors.

Earlier, NAF's Yahaya Ibrahim hit the crossbar with a powerful shot, and Anas Yusuf missed a golden opportunity after a precise pass from Umar Ada.

However, the Solid Miners maintained the scoreline until the final whistle, securing their first away win of the season. This result placed them joint-top with Wikki Tourists FC of Bauchi, both on 20 points. However, Wikki Tourists had a better goal advantage with 14 compared to United's seven.

A delegation from Nasarawa State, led by Deputy Governor Dr. Emmanuel Agbadu Akabe, including Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development Hon. Jafaru Ango, Permanent Secretary Chief Barr. Isaac Danladi, House Committee Chairman on Youth and Sports Development Hon. Garba Mohammed Isimbabi, Nasarawa State Football Association Chairman Salisu Galadima, and Hajiya Hussaina Suleiman Nagogo, Chairperson of Nasarawa Amazons FC, cheered on the Solid Miners to victory.

Nasarawa United will be on standby this weekend before hosting Wikki Tourists the following weekend at Lafia City Stadium at 3 pm.

Deputy Gov. Dr. Emmanuel Agbadu Akabe expressed his congratulations to the team, stating, "I was quite impressed with the quality of play, and I pray that we keep this momentum. Whatever it is, we are going to work with the House of Assembly, the Ministry of Youth and Sports, and the Club's Management to ensure that all requirements for your return to the Premier League are fulfilled. If there's anything you want us to do, let us know, and we'll try our best to support your smooth return to the elite league because that's where we belong. Lastly, upon my return to Lafia, there will be something for you as a reward for your hard work today."
