13th African Games: Nigeria's Falconets qualify for S/final in Cape Coast

Posted : 12 March 2024

The Falconets of Nigeria coasted gleefully into the semifinals of the All African Games Women’s football event on Monday night at the Cape Coast Stadium in Accra, Ghana, with a convincing 4-0 victory over Senegal in their 2nd Group B match.

The Chris Danjuma-led team could only secure a goal in the first half through Njideka in the 14th minute.

Upon the resumption of the second half, the Nigerian team went on the offensive, pressuring their opponents. Ezekiel scored Nigeria's second goal in the 50th minute, followed by an own goal from Kalas in the 51st minute. The Nigerian girls sealed the 4-0 victory through Olise.

Spectators turned the game into a practice match with cheers from fans, which almost distracted the Nigerian girls from scoring more goals.

Nigeria had previously defeated Morocco 2-0 in their opening match, and since their next opponent, Cameroon, had withdrawn, Nigeria automatically received a walkover with three points, securing the top spot in Group B.

Two teams from each group will move to the semifinals, and Nigeria has successfully secured its place.
