University of West London launches esports-focused courses

Posted : 03 May 2024

The University of West London has unveiled plans to introduce two new esports-focused courses starting in September 2024.

These courses, VSc Esports Management with Event Production and FDSc Coaching for Eplayers, will be conducted at the newly established Digital Futures Lab situated on the university's London campus.

This initiative aligns with the university's strategic move to tap into the burgeoning esports education sector, joining a host of UK institutions offering similar programs.

The Esports Management with Event Production course, designed to span three years, will delve into critical aspects such as esports regulation, risk management, digital marketing, promotion, and event production.

Spearheaded by the London Geller College of Hospitality and Tourism (LGCHT), this program aims to equip students with a comprehensive understanding of the esports industry's multifaceted dynamics.

Meanwhile, the two-year foundation degree in Coaching for Eplayers will cater to aspiring esports coaches, focusing on areas such as nutrition, well-being, team dynamics, and cognitive skills development.

James Edmunds, Associate Pro Vice-Chancellor and Dean at UWL's LGCHT, emphasized the holistic approach adopted by the university in crafting these esports degrees. By offering a blend of theoretical knowledge and practical experience, the courses aim to immerse students in the intricate world of gaming while nurturing their skills for future career prospects.

With the university's strategic location in West London, Edmunds highlighted the advantageous proximity to established esports entities, underscoring the growing demand for skilled and industry-ready esports graduates.
