The VALORANT Masters Toronto tournament took an unexpected turn as fan-favorite Sentinels faced their first loss at the hands of Pacific powerhouse Paper Rex. Entering the series unbeaten, Sentinels were swiftly dismantled 0-2, as PRX continued their dominant campaign toward the Grand Final. The first map on Split highlighted PRX’s aggressive execution and flawless site control, overwhelming Sentinels' double-initiator setup and resulting in a decisive 13-3 win.
The second map, Sunset, was far more contested. Known as one of Sentinels’ strongest maps, the match featured tight rounds and frequent momentum shifts. Sentinels initially controlled the defensive half with disciplined retakes, but PRX, boosted by standout plays from Jinggg on Raze, clawed back critical rounds. In a tense second half marked by close team fights and calculated plays, Paper Rex ultimately secured the map 13-11, knocking Sentinels into the lower bracket.
Earlier in the day, Wolves Esports delivered one of the tournament's biggest shocks by defeating Pacific favorite Gen.G Esports in a 2-0 upset. Despite a rough start on Split, Wolves mounted an impressive comeback on defense to edge out a 13-11 victory.
The Chinese squad carried that momentum into Lotus—playing the map for the first time at the event—where they again rallied in the second half, outmaneuvering Gen.G’s defenses to win 13-9. Strategic guidance from head coach Fayde, including timely timeouts, proved instrumental in both wins.
With these results, Paper Rex and Wolves Esports advance to the Upper Bracket Final, guaranteeing both teams a top-three finish at Masters Toronto. Meanwhile, Sentinels and Gen.G now face a difficult path through the lower bracket, where they must survive three matches to reach the final. Their next challenge comes against European giants Fnatic and G2 Esports, who remain in strong form following victories in earlier rounds.
