Ryan Hart, a revered figure in the fighting game community, has been named an official ambassador for the Virtua Fighter series. The announcement was made via the game's social media, unveiling the Ryan Hart VF Cup, a new tournament set to launch on February 8th, along with a series of tutorial videos designed to help players master the game.
The tournament will be held monthly, offering exclusive in-game icons provided by publisher SEGA, while Hart’s DOJO VF tutorials currently feature four episodes breaking down key mechanics of the game.
Hart, known as "The Prodigal Son," began competing in 1994 and claimed his first championship victory in King of Fighters 96’ just two years later. Over the years, he has won more than 450 tournaments across multiple fighting game franchises, including Street Fighter, Tekken, The King of Fighters, and Virtua Fighter.
His accomplishments include two Evolution Championship Series (Evo) titles, winning Tekken Tag Tournament in 2004 and Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection in 2008. Additionally, he holds four Guinness World Records in fighting games, including the most international tournament victories and the longest winning streak in Street Fighter V.
Although Hart remains active in competitive gaming, he has reduced his tournament participation since 2017 to focus on other roles within the esports industry. He has transitioned into commentary and hosting, covering multiple Evo events and serving as a broadcaster for the Esports World Cup 2024. Most recently, he was the opening host for the Apex Legends Global Series Year 4 Championship, one of the biggest battle royale tournaments in the esports calendar.
