Riot Games Confirms Removal of Atakhan Ahead of 2026 League of Legends Season

Posted : 02 December 2025

Riot Games has officially announced that Atakhan, the neutral objective introduced earlier this season, will be removed from Summoner’s Rift for the 2026 League of Legends season. The decision comes as part of the developer’s efforts to address objective overload in gameplay.

“We tried to alleviate this overload by removing his second form and the second set of Grubs earlier this year, but we don’t think it was enough,” Riot Games explained in their developer update.

Alongside Atakhan, related features such as Feats of Strength and the Blood Roses and Petals will also be retired. In compensation, first blood and first turret bonus gold will return, and Baron Nashor’s spawn timer will revert to the 20-minute mark, as it was in previous seasons.

The upcoming season will also see broader gameplay changes aimed at speeding up early matches and making strategic plays more impactful. Epic monsters will be tankier, with more of their strength allocated to buffs and comeback experience, increasing the stakes of late-game contests. Minion and jungle camp spawn times will also be adjusted, with minions appearing 30 seconds earlier and jungle camps 35 seconds sooner, while late-game minion spawns will occur every 20 seconds.

Split pushing is set to play a larger role in 2026. Riot Games will introduce a new mechanic that accumulates on towers and can be used to deal extra damage. Adjustments to turret plates and how turrets absorb damage aim to reward teams that successfully execute side-lane strategies.

Vision control will also see updates with the introduction of Faelights, new marked ward locations that extend vision and support teams looking to build plays through the side lanes.

For esports, these changes signal a shift away from teamfighting and stacked objectives toward faster-paced matches and strategic diversity.

With Atakhan removed and Baron Nashor available earlier, games are expected to accelerate, giving strong teams the opportunity to pursue alternative strategies like split pushing to secure turret plates and additional gold, rather than relying solely on neutral objectives.
