Riot Games has revealed plans for a new cross-regional League of Legends tournament, the Americas Cup, set to take place ahead of First Stand, the first global event of the 2026 esports calendar. The announcement came during the LCS’ 2026 season presentation, signaling Riot’s continued commitment to fostering competition between regions.
The tournament will feature the second and third-place teams from the LCS and CBLOL, who will face off at the Riot Games Arena in São Paulo, Brazil. The event is designed to build on the cross-regional rivalry introduced with last year’s LTA and will span five days, with matches held in front of a live audience.
The Americas Cup will use a double-elimination format. First-round upper bracket matches will be best-of-three, while all other matches will be best-of-five. Although no prize pool will be awarded due to Riot Games’ removal of prizes from regional leagues, the event will offer boot camp opportunities, providing teams the chance to train against top international competition in South Korea ahead of the Mid-Season Invitational (MSI).
Riot Games will fund boot camps for the third-place LCS team in the Spring Split, the second and third-place CBLOL teams, and the Americas Cup winner. If a team qualifies through multiple paths, the extra slot will go to their league, meaning that up to four LCS teams could benefit from training abroad. This follows Riot’s successful 2025 initiative, where LTA South teams relocated to Los Angeles for MSI preparations.
The 2026 LCS season begins on January 24th and introduces the ‘First Selection’ system, a redesign of side selection. Teams can now choose which side to play on or whether to pick first or second in the draft, with opponents receiving the remaining option. This change aims to deepen strategic gameplay, building on the Fearless Draft system introduced in 2025.
