Esports tournament organiser PGL has announced its entry into a new competitive discipline with the upcoming GeoGuessr XMARK Media Cup. Scheduled for December 20–21, this marks PGL’s first official tournament for the geography-based browser game.
The XMARK Media Cup will feature a double-elimination format. All matches will be played as best-of-three, culminating in a best-of-five Grand Final. Tournament rules include standard game settings with 10 rounds, increasing damage after the fourth round, and inclusion of Move, No Move, and NMPZ modes.
Fans will be able to follow the action through PGL’s main broadcasts on YouTube and Twitch, in addition to streams from the players’ own perspectives. PGL also revealed that online gambling company 1xBet will serve as the tournament’s title partner, supporting new competitive formats and helping expand the boundaries of esports.
While GeoGuessr is not traditionally viewed as a mainstream competitive title like Counter-Strike 2 or League of Legends, it has steadily grown its esports presence since its 2023 launch. In 2025, multiple regional tournaments were held in countries including Japan, the United States, and Sweden, culminating in the World Cup Finals. The finals featured a prize pool of $108,480 (~£80,953) and attracted peak viewership exceeding 360,000. The Grand Final was ultimately won by Radu “Radu C” Casapu.
Throughout 2025, GeoGuessr also partnered with platforms such as Esports Charts for analytics and Opera GX as the official browser partner for the World Cup Finals. These collaborations reflect the game’s ongoing expansion in the competitive esports scene.
