Paris Set to Host Esports World Cup as Event Expands Beyond Saudi Arabia

Posted : 01 June 2026

The Esports World Cup (EWC) is set for a landmark move in 2026, with the tournament leaving Saudi Arabia for the first time and relocating to Paris. Running from July 6 to August 23, the event will bring together elite competitors across 24 game titles, competing for a share of a record-breaking $75 million prize pool.

The French capital has already established itself as a prominent destination for major esports competitions. In recent years, Paris has hosted high-profile events across several gaming titles, including Rocket League, VALORANT, and Evo. However, the Esports World Cup presents a much larger challenge due to its scale, duration, and the number of stakeholders involved.

Unlike traditional esports tournaments that focus on a single title or a single weekend, the EWC spans seven weeks and involves more than 200 esports organizations, thousands of players, sponsors, publishers, media outlets, and fans from around the world. Successfully delivering an event of this magnitude could significantly strengthen Paris’ reputation as one of the leading esports hubs globally.

The relocation comes at a time when the international esports calendar is more crowded than ever. Organizing a multi-title competition of this size on relatively short notice will test the city’s infrastructure, logistics, and event management capabilities. A successful tournament could place Paris alongside established esports destinations such as Seoul, Shanghai, and Riyadh.

One of Paris’ major advantages lies in France’s long-term commitment to esports development. Through a national esports strategy, the country has invested in building a supportive ecosystem that includes tournament organizers, professional teams, agencies, publishers, and public institutions. Government support has also played a role, with French authorities mobilizing resources to help facilitate the event.

France has introduced policies that make it easier for professional esports players from abroad to obtain visas and compete in the country. These measures are particularly important for a global tournament that depends on the smooth arrival of participants from multiple regions. The nation has also aligned esports events with traditional sporting and cultural competitions, including favorable tax policies designed to support large-scale events.

Another key strength is France’s passionate esports community. The country is widely recognized for producing some of the most enthusiastic crowds in competitive gaming, particularly in titles such as League of Legends, VALORANT, Counter-Strike, Rocket League, and fighting games. French esports organizations and content creators have cultivated strong fan communities that regularly generate impressive attendance figures and vibrant atmospheres.

Industry observers believe that this passionate audience could provide the Esports World Cup with an energy and authenticity that has been difficult to replicate elsewhere. Popular French organizations, including Karmine Corp and Gentlemates, have helped drive engagement by connecting esports competition with influential content creators and their communities.

Paris also benefits from its geographical position and time zone. Hosting the tournament in Western Europe could make broadcasts more accessible to audiences across Europe and the Americas, potentially increasing viewership for key matches and championship events.

While it may be too early to label Paris as the definitive esports capital of the world, the Esports World Cup represents a major opportunity for the city. If organizers successfully manage the event’s scale, maintain strong attendance, and deliver a seamless experience for players and fans, Paris could emerge as one of the most influential esports destinations globally.

The foundations have been built over many years. The Esports World Cup now offers Paris its biggest opportunity yet to demonstrate its capabilities on the industry's largest stage.
