OverActive Media completes acquisition of KOI, Movistar Riders

Posted : 03 March 2024

Canadian esports organization OverActive Media has successfully concluded its acquisitions of Spanish esports entities KOI and Movistar Riders.

The deal, initiated in early 2024, has elevated OverActive, already known for MAD Lions, Toronto Defiant, and Toronto Ultra, to one of the most influential esports holding companies globally.

Founders of KOI and Movistar Riders, including Ibai Llanos and Gerard Piqué, now serve as shareholders, brand ambassadors, and board members at OverActive, reinforcing its leadership team.

Ibai Llanos and Gerard Piqué, co-founders of KOI, have become shareholders and brand ambassadors for OverActive Media. Piqué has taken a seat on the Board of Directors alongside Movistar Riders co-founder Gabriel Sáenz de Buruaga.

The merger has brought senior officers from both entities into OverActive Media, with Fernando Piquer and Carlos García-Acevedo, former Co-CEOs of Movistar Riders, assuming roles as Chief Strategy Officer and Chief Commercial Officer, respectively.

Carmen Cardenete, Mike Schwartzentruber, and Till Werdermann have joined as VP of Marketing, VP of Finance, and VP of Team Operations, respectively.

Adam Adamou, OverActive's CEO, expressed enthusiasm for the acquisitions, highlighting their positive impact on audience numbers, engagement levels, sponsorships, and renewals.

The move solidifies OverActive's standing in the esports industry, combining its vision with the acquired entities for a more comprehensive and influential presence.
