MSI 2026 Storylines Heat Up as G2, Top Esports and FURIA Set the Pace Across Regions

Posted : 09 June 2026

With the Mid-Season Invitational just weeks away, competitive League of Legends regions around the world are still finalising their spring split outcomes. While some leagues have already crowned champions, others are deep in playoff battles with several international spots still undecided.

Top Esports have already secured their place at MSI after a dominant run, while the remaining Chinese slot is still being contested by BiliBili Gaming, Anyone’s Legend and Team WE. In Europe, G2 Esports once again proved their dominance by defeating Karmine Corp in a closely fought LEC final rematch. Meanwhile, in Brazil, FURIA have strengthened their reputation by showing that a fully domestic roster can compete at the highest level.

In North America, LYON delivered a convincing win over Cloud9, raising questions about C9’s consistency and overall form heading into the final stages of qualification. Elsewhere, Dplus Kia’s elimination has sparked wider discussions about the team’s direction both in and outside of gameplay.

Team WE’s MSI hopes under pressure

Team WE, who were not expected to challenge for MSI qualification at the start of the split, now find their hopes fading after a heavy defeat to Top Esports. TES secured a 3-0 victory that not only confirmed their international spot but also exposed WE’s reliance on chaotic skirmish-based play.

Top Esports controlled the series through structure and discipline, with jungler Tian setting the pace and preventing WE from dictating their preferred style. The defeat leaves WE in a difficult position as BiliBili Gaming continue to look strong, with support ON receiving particular praise for his fearless playstyle.

G2 continue European dominance

G2 Esports added another LEC title to their collection after a 3-2 win over Karmine Corp, securing their 19th regional championship and a direct berth into MSI’s bracket stage. KC will now enter through the play-in stage after falling just short in the final.

A standout performer for G2 was jungler SkewMond, who went deathless across all three of the team’s wins and earned MVP honours. His performances, including a surprising Nasus jungle pick, have sparked growing discussion about his potential to become one of Europe’s top emerging stars since Caps.

Dplus Kia face internal and competitive concerns

Dplus Kia’s MSI hopes ended in disappointment after a narrow loss to KT Rolster, where they twice surrendered late-game leads in decisive teamfights. Despite strong positions in Games 4 and 5, the team was unable to close out the series.

Off the Rift, further scrutiny has surrounded head coach cvMax following controversial comments in a post-match interview, prompting the organisation to reinforce stricter communication standards. Combined with earlier criticism of coaching methods, DK now face calls to stabilise their environment ahead of Worlds qualification attempts.

Cloud9 face elimination pressure in LCS

Cloud9 suffered a 3-0 defeat to LYON in the LCS playoffs, a result that mirrors last year’s disappointing MSI qualification failure. The team once again struggled to convert regular-season form into playoff success, particularly in teamfights where they were heavily outclassed.

They now face Team Liquid in a high-stakes match for the region’s final MSI spot. Mid laner Quid has recently taken on a larger carry role, and the mid-jungle synergy is expected to be crucial in deciding their fate.

FURIA’s success reshapes Brazilian esports approach

FURIA’s strong domestic run has secured them another MSI appearance and sparked wider debate about roster construction in Brazil. Their success with a fully local lineup has encouraged other CBLOL teams to reconsider reliance on imported talent.

Reports suggest LOUD and Vivo Keyd Stars are preparing major roster changes, with a shift toward domestic players gaining momentum. Analysts believe Brazil’s strongest performances have historically come from synergy-driven local lineups rather than imported-heavy rosters.

With MSI approaching, FURIA will now have a direct bracket-stage opportunity to prove that Brazilian teams can compete on the global stage without relying on international imports.
